Recently genetic genealogy has been in the news with the arrest Joseph James DeAngelo Jr. and the use of DNA genetic genealogy in the case. DNA testing however is not new. What is new is the addition of genealogy in the combination of DNA testing and investigation.
As a certified and seasoned genealogist, I became involved with genetic genealogy about 5 years ago helping individuals find biological parents and other family members through DNA research. The new name for this is genetic genealogy; the use of DNA testing to determine relationships between individuals.
In my former profession, I was a seasoned investigator, analyst, and researcher with a background in law enforcement and the US Intelligence Community. I have worked for several law enforcement agencies to include the Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Genealogy and specifically genetic genealogy was a natural transition for me.
